We’ve made it through the summer and filled our days with adventures. Fall is my favourite time of year because of the fun events throughout the city, but there’s also something about the ‘back to school’ and ‘back to routine’ that gets me too. Don’t worry though, there’s still tons of fun that can be had throughout the city – on the weekends.
Here’s what to do this weekend in Edmonton, with the kids:
Pancake Palooza | 5811 19A Ave
Are you ready for a pancake flipping good time? Snack of a stack of flapjacks with Family Future and get to know other families in the community. There will be crafts, games and other stories and fun things for families at the pancake breakfast.
When: Saturday, 9-11
Tooth Fairy Day | Aponia Dental
Don’t miss your chance to meet the Tooth Fairy! She’ll be at our open house! Your family will also get an inside look at how our dental office works, learn about the importance of dental hygiene, make a craft and even take a photo with the Tooth Fairy. See you there!

Meet a Machine | Northlands
Parkwood Master Builder’s Meet a Machine is a fun, family-oriented event where kids can check out cool machinery. $3/person or $10/family. The 2nd Annual Parkwood Master Builder’s Meet a Machine is a fun, family-oriented event where kids can see, sit, and climb on all kinds of different equipment, from agricultural, industrial, and construction machinery to unique vehicles. Tickets are $3 each or $10 per family. Tickets are available at the gate (cash-only) or online.
When: Sunday, 11-3
John Janzen 40th Anniversary | John Janzen Centre Edmonton
Open since 1976, the John Janzen Nature Centre encourages visitors of all ages to have fun while learning more about the importance of Edmonton’s natural spaces. To celebrate these past 40 years, the Nature Centre invites you to come explore, learn and enjoy what all they have to offer. Exciting activities will be happening throughout the day – fun for the whole family!
When: Sunday, 11-3
Great Big Family Picnic | Devonian Botanic Gardens
Get your family out of the city and into the Garden. No work or chores, just outdoor quality time with your loved ones. Come for one of summer’s purest and most classic pleasures – the family picnic. Pack up the kids and a blanket and claim a spot. We’ll provide the games, crafts and natural fun! Naturalists will be on site at the Calla Pond with ponding activities, children’s crafts, and family games. Bring your own picnic food (no BBQ’s or alcohol, please), or purchase food at the Patio Cafe (sandwiches, soups, hot dogs, ice cream and other light fare).

Wetaskiwin Splashfest! | Wetaskiwin
There’s something exciting happening on the Wetaskiwin Recreation Grounds this year. On August 27th, there’s theSplash Festival, A water fight with 50,000 water balloons, slip and slide fun, water gun fights and so much more to do to spend the day getting wet. Gates open at 10 am, and the main water fight begins at 3 pm, with enough time when you’re finished to grab something to eat from one of the vendors on site. Bringing little kids? Don’t worry, there are designated ‘dry zones’ for parents, or kids that don’t want to get wet. Have little kids? There’s a child-friendly water fight beginning at 1:30, for children aged ten and under.

Family Drive in Movie Night | 2707 34 Street
Join us for our second Family Drive-in Movie Night featuring the beautiful animated story, The Little Prince. Tickets $20/vehicle (up to 5 people/vehicle) available at the parish office. Concession on-site: popcorn – hot dogs – pizza – refreshments
