Visit the Ice Castles

Guided Hike of the River Valley

Join us for a hike through the valley (with our or your snowshoes or crampons), with a stop midway for some hot chocolate, cookies and marshmallow roast mid way. We start at the Old Timers Cabins (south end parking lot), Nellie McClung Park, to ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞ Indigenous Art Park and then return. Learn about some history of the city, the North Saskatchewan River, and see some great views of downtown from the banks of the river.

Warm up at the WEM World Waterpark

Spend your day in 31-degree weather inside the warmth of the World Waterpark. If you visit early in the morning, it’s not very busy, and you can run off that extra, cold-weather energy, early. Stop by Fantasyland Hotel at 2:30 to see Characters come to life!

Deep Freeze Festival

Join us Saturday, January 11th & Sunday, January 12th, 2020 and embrace the cold northern climate by enjoying artistic panache and authentic cultural and heritage winter games and fun. This year, Saturday will be Ukrainian Cultural Day and Sunday will be Francophone Cultural Day, with Indigenous performances all weekend long. Several festival stages will feature special world music performances on Saturday.

Lantern Marking Workshop for the Flying Canoe Festival

The Flying Canoë Volant Festival and Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues – EFCL invite you to a Community Lantern Making Workshop at Bonnie Doon Hall, in preparation for one of Edmonton’s great winter festivals: The Flying Canoë Volant! The lanterns you create during the workshop will be on display during the festival January 30 – February 1, 2020 and will be seen by over 35,000 visitors! This 2 hour ‘bright ideas’ lantern workshop will be facilitated by well-known lantern maker Lynette Maurice. The workshop is sponsored by the EFCL and is therefore free of charge for participants. Donations to the festival are welcome on the day.
