Elk Island National Park is excited to work with Parkbus to provide a free shuttle service from Edmonton to Elk Island National Park this summer. It’s the perfect opportunity to check out the free programming happening all summer long at Elk Island National Park.
When and where will the bus operate?
The Parkbus TD Elk Island Express will operate every Saturday from June 8 to August 31, 2019 and Sundays on long weekends through the summer (June 30, August 4 and September 1). The bus will depart Edmonton from the Brewery District Mountain Equipment Coop location at 8:30 am and the Royal Alberta Museum at 8:45 am for a half-day visit to Elk Island National Park. The bus will depart Elk Island National Park at 3:30 pm to return to Edmonton.
How does it work?
Guests must reserve a seat by registering online at Parkbus.ca. A $15 deposit is required and will be refunded to participants who arrive on-time for their scheduled departure. Regular park entry fees apply and Parks Canada Discovery Passes are accepted for admission. Parks Canada Discovery Pass holders must bring their pass on the bus.
Where will the bus stop?
Upon arrival to Elk Island National Park, the TD Elk Island Express will stop at the brand new Elk Island National Park Visitor Information Centre where guests can learn about the history of the park, speak with Parks Canada staff, and browse local Indigenous artisan crafts and official Parks Canada merchandise. Following this stop, TD Elk Island Express guests have the opportunity to watch for wildlife as they are transported 20 minutes north to the Astotin Lake Recreation Area.
Guests have approximately four hours to enjoy a range of self-directed activities in this area: join an interpretive program, enjoy a picnic on the beach, play on the brand new playground or watch birds and other wildlife from the Living Waters Boardwalk. Parkbus guests also have the opportunity to rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard from Haskin Canoe (weather permitting, fees apply), golf at the Elk Island Golf Course (fees apply) or walk a trail in the area.
