Fun runs are one of my favorite activities to do during the summer months. Grab a group of friends and get out there, getting a work out where the energy can only be described as infectious. Bringing the kids along can allow you to walk the walk when it comes to living an active lifestyle, and give them a healthy dose of fun (and sometimes color and bounce houses) while you’re at it.
Here are some of our favorite upcoming fun runs you can bring the kids to in Edmonton, in 2016:
Spring Into Sprinkles (April) | Spring into Sprinkles to benefit Girls on the Run and take a walk or run through Rundle Park with the kids. You can finish up the fun run with a gourmet cupcake, and spend a lovely morning outside. (We’re giving away to passes to run and eat cupcakes, here)
Run + Walk for Pie (May) | Every runner or walker will be rewarded at the finish line with a slice of pie. Now, that’s my kind of race. The race will begin at Kinsmen Park and venture through the river valley, in support of the Stollery children’s hospital foundation. For little kids, there’s an easy 1KM walk with a bouncy castle at the end, and cookies to entice them to get moving.
Graffiti Run (June) | Get out your best Whites! Throughout the course you encounter “Graffiti Zones” where our diabolical team of volunteers, staff, sponsors and leprechauns will douse you with Color.
Color Me Rad (July) | Color Me Rad is one of those races that I didn’t bring the kids along to the last couple of years that I’ve gone and I got looks of sheer jealousy when I came home brightly colored. This year, I thought, why not? Kids are free to sign up and you can order race packs online, to reduce the costs of entering the race. If you’re running with a toddler or infant in a stroller, I don’t think I would do it – for the sake of the stroller, and the kid. Wait until they can walk along with you and run a little too
5K Water Fight Run | This race involves individual registration, but you can definitely run the route with your friends! The registration fee includes the cost of water blasters that race runners will use to navigate through “Splash Zones” through out the route. Each Splash Zone will involve water challenges that will put their aim, speed, and agility to the test. Beware for an epic water fight by the end of the route! Also available, family run with smaller water features for younger children.
Insane Inflatable 5K (September) | Inflatables are one of the best parts of childhood, and now you can do it as a family. Children must be 42″ tall to take part in the race, but there is no age limit for running. The inflatables are going to be epic, so kids must be ready to tackle them.
Zombie Evasion (October) | An experience like no other as you run through the action/entertainment on the course, with surprises that will scare, thrill, and amaze you. We don’t show the race course map for a reason, it’s a secret to keep the suspense and theatrics top secret.
