Make 2018 the Year you sign up for the local CSA box from Riverbend Gardens
You know that face that some kids make while you’re encouraging them to take just a couple of bites of a new vegetable or fruit? The one that’s usually followed up with a variety of sounds and struggles, and often ends with the kid admitting, “Hey, that wasn’t so bad after all”?
That used to be our constant struggle – we’ve got one of those kids that was uninterested in trying new vegetables or fruits, until we changed one factor: we got the kids more involved in seeing how their food makes it to their plate. We worked with them to choose the produce that accompanied our meals, learning about how the produce is grown and finding and preparing recipes for dinner.
Signing up for a Community Supposed Agriculture box, or a CSA, as you’ll often hear it referred to, is like a weekly subscription box for your vegetables – a weekly subscription for your vegetables that helps your kids get excited about seeing them on their plate! It’s no secret that veggies that are grown local, travelling shorter distances, taste better – there’s something about getting fresh produce on your table, right!?
Do you need inspiration for a local CSA? Look no further than Riverbend Gardens CSA.
Get Your Veggies Delivered: Riverbend Gardens CSA Subscription
The produce that you’ll experience as part of the Riverbend CSA is grown on a third generation, family owned farm within Edmonton city limits. So it supports sustainable, local agriculture in your community. How’s that for cool?
What types of vegetables are available? There are 20 different types of veggies that are grown locally and you’ve got the option of choosing individual weeks with a week to week subscription, or the full fifteen-week subscription, which also happens to be a great way to make fresh and local veggies even more affordable.
How does it work? Every week, you can choose from one of the nineteen pickup locations in Edmonton and area. You can shop local, and skip the time that it might take to browse and shop through the entire Farmer’s Market.
Through the entire fifteen-week subscription, no two weeks are the same. You’ll get to try all different kinds of vegetables, giving you the chance to introduce new veggies to your kids, and help them to connect with the food that’s grown right here in the local community. Once you have experienced the taste of fresh vegetables, grown locally, you’ll be hooked.
Each week, you’ll receive an email with updates on fields, recipes for the unique veggies included in the bundle and other features that will help to get the kids excited to pick-up the freshest veggies in town!
The Riverbend Gardens CSA season starts on July 5th, 2018 and you can sign up here.
