Our kids get antsy at brunch. The waiting and the fact that we don’t usually have a snack before we go means they’re ready to eat, and they don’t want to sit for long. If you’ve got little kids – you know where I’m coming from.
The opening of Local in Sherwood Park may not scream kid-friendly brunch to you, but the shuffleboards, board games (like Trouble!) and not overly quiet environment means the restaurant is actually quite kid-friendly. Here’s why:
There’s Shuffleboard (and other games). Like we mentioned, there are actually a few ways that you can entertain the kids while you’re there. Shuffleboard, a giant curling rink, board games – you won’t have to worry about keeping them too quiet and sitting in one place while you eat. Plus, you might just have a little fun yourself. The kids’ only complaint? The food arrived fast, we didn’t get very long to play they complained. I’m going to call that a brunch win.
Serving up Brunch
We got an assortment of food with the brunch, a couple of orders of the delicious fried egg sandwich served up with spiced, crispy potatoes. We split an order of the banana pancakes between the kids, and a sharing plate of perogies because it’s the only request that they had.
The pancakes were fluffy, perfect, with chunks of banana in them. They came served with bananas sliced on top, and a small, kid-friendly shot-glass-sized, smoothie on the side. The order of pancakes was more than enough to share for two little kids, with the addition of the requested sharing plate of perogies. In fact, they stole away some of my crispy potatoes and I had one of the pancakes for myself – it was really, really, yummy.
Brunch is served at Local, on the weekends, between 10 and 3. There’s a family friendly area to sit inside, and you can take advantage of the Sunday mimosa special, if you’re into mimosa brunches (I am).
