With a petting zoo, mini midway, food, face painting and the chance to touch a giant pumpkin (and see it drop!) Smoky Lake should be on your list of adventures to have with the kids during Fall in Alberta, on Saturday October 1st, for the Giant Pumpkin Weigh off and Fair.
Located just over an hour outside of Edmonton, it’s a fun weekend day trip to experience a giant pumpkin – that’s even bigger when you’re a kid. All of the small town fun, Farmer’s Market and the giant pumpkins in a row are worth the trip from Edmonton – and it’s the perfect location for a day trip outside of the city to enjoy those gorgeous fall colors in a small town setting.
I don’t remember ever seeing a giant pumpkin as a child, but you can bet that after we take the girls we’re going to hear about giant pumpkins for months to come. After being obsessed with James and the Giant Peach, the girls are going to love it.
There’s a weekend full of events (find the calendar here) that you can explore, but it looks like the most family friendly fun can be found on Saturday.
Tip: You’re going to want to stick around until 5:30 for the pumpkin drop on Saturday, October 1. It’s $10 for admission for adults, $5 for kids over 8 and children 7 and under are free. It’s a budget friendly day trip, just over an hour from Edmonton, and the chance to experience something incredible in the fall season.
