Discovery Canyon is a fun, tubing-attraction that’s best suited to kids eight and under, in Red Deer. It’s free, and because of that, it’s one of the most popular places that locals (and non-locals) visit during the summer months – so it can become quite busy.
On a hot summer day enjoy bubbling pools of water, trickling rivulets and a lagoon at the bottom of the canyon. Water is pumped up from the lake below and splashes and bubbles its way down grass and tree-lined riffles.
Here’s what you need to know before you go:
- Tubes sizes can only be between 30 inches to 50 inches for the ride. If they are any larger you may be asked to remove them from the river by staff.
- Don’t have a tube? You can rent one for $5. You’ll have to leave your driver’s license as a deposit for the rental.
- Operating hours are 9 am to 9 pm. Depending on the ages of children that you’re visiting the attraction with, there are best places to sit. If you’re there with toddlers and young children, sitting near the sand so the kids can play in the sand and in the water and older children can venture up to the top of the tubing slides.
- The attraction is weather dependent. To see if the tubing slides are open, you can contact Discovery Canyon at 403-343-6341 ext 105.
