Family day is a week away. If you’re staying in the city for the weekend, you’re in luck. There’s plenty to explore and see, with scores of local places offering free admission for families wanting to celebrate together, exploring one of the many local Edmonton family day events.

Hot Diggity Dog Day 

Where: 7104 87 Ave NW
When: February 19, 12-2
Celebrate Family Day with skating, hot dogs, and hot chocolate. It’s a great chance to get outside, and spend the day, on the cheap with the family.

Where: Art Gallery of Alberta

Creekwood Family Day Frolic

Where: Creekwood Chappelle
When: February 18, 12-5
Join us on Sunday, February 18th, from 12-5PM on Chappelle Way in the Creekwood Collections at Chappelle and Chappelle Road in Creekwood Chappelle for an afternoon of family-fun and entertainment. From horse-drawn wagon rides and dog sled teams to a hockey shootout and an adventure bus, there will be fun for the whole family and so much more!

Rutherford Open House Family Day

Celebrate Family Day with a FREE visit to the historic home of the first Premier of Alberta, Alexander Cameron Rutherford, and discover the unique personalities in the Rutherford family. Which one of them loved golf? Who did all the driving for Mr. Rutherford? Who played the piano? Who dug that old rag-time jazz? Explore this elegant, historic house, and join in historical games with the costumed interpreters, sample a treat made in the historic kitchen and make an old-fashioned craft.

We are so excited to have Dick Laurin Hay & Sleigh Rides visit Elmwood! Our Family Day event will include horse-drawn sleigh rides, a bonfire and hot dog roast, s’mores, snow painting and snowman building.

This is the perfect opportunity to come out and connect with alumni and friends from The King’s University along with family and friends within the Ottewell community There will be skate rentals available for $2.00, sleigh rides, free hot chocolate and cookies, live music, indoor and outdoor activities, along with food and drink for sale.

Silver Skate Festival 

Where: Hawrelak Park

Each year, the festival transforms Hawrelak Park into a winter wonderland with fun for the entire family. Here, you’ll discover breathtaking snow sculpture, winter sports, and horse-drawn sleighs carrying families through the park. Sit in a Cree Winter Camp and cook bannock over an open fire.
