Getting out of the house during the fall and winter gets a little more difficult when you’ve got kids that aren’t tolerant of the cold, or would simply rather play inside. However, there are some indoor playgrounds and play places where getting out of the house can cost you a bundle – recently at one indoor playground, we paid upwards of fifty bucks for lunch and admission, expensive when you’re searching for regular places to play.
Here are some of our favourite cheap places to get out of the house and play in Edmonton for under five bucks (and even free):
Imagination Playground ($4.75) | The imagination playground at the City Arts Centre features those giant blue blocks that every child loves, and fosters playing together and cooperating, that all parents love. It’s open for drop-in on Fridays between 9:30 and 11, and is a fun place to explore for little kids.
Phoenix Gymnastics ($5) | Monday, Wednesday and Friday, there are drop in gymnastics for $5/preschool child (parents are free) at Phoenix Gymnastics. It’s a fun place for parents to run around with the kids, and there’s tons of space to do just that, with a toddler area in the front, that has plenty to climb on, and larger trampolines in the back for a vast space to run and play.
Ardrossan Love to Play ($3.75) | The Love to Play space is one of those fantastic ones where there are two types of sessions every week, where you drop in with the kids and play (or drop them off for some unparented fun, for a bit higher of a fee $7/hour). The space is incredible and has everything from a blanket fort to a small market set-up, and activity walls.
Santa Maria ($2) | There’s something about drop in play on a pirate ship to incite imagination. Though there are no climbing structures or things to amuse on this ship inside West Edmonton Mall, there’s the element of imagination that comes with being able to walk about and explore the ship, that’s usually just spotted as you walk by.
Millennium Place ($5.25) | Just a touch over five bucks, this one made the list because admission for the kids means they can play in the indoor playground, parents don’t have to pay admission for the playground, and explore everything the large indoor playspace has to offer. Drop in daily between 9-9, and if you love it, reduce the cost to $4.75/visit with a ten visit pass. Pictured above.
Hide n Seek ($4.95) | Toddler Tuesdays gives kids 1-3 the chance to explore the playground, on the cheap, for admission until 2pm. There are $1 cookies, and drop in toddler crafts that start at 10 am, to go along with the cheap admission at the fun, big indoor playground.
Kinsmen Playground ($4.50) | Drop in for the inflatables, climbing structures and the imagination playground with the big blue blocks. Bring bikes and scooters for preschool wheels, and create your own obstacle course, with the many fun things to do at this indoor playspace for preschoolers in Edmonton, on the cheap.
