Life is all about memories, and there’s no better way to make them than with family. Fun activities need not be complicated for you to enjoy them. There are simple activities that would make a lasting impact and memories. These activities can equally be tried out by youngsters and their grandparents who are already enjoying their senior years in senior independent living care. Here are some fun activities for grandparents and grandchildren:
Do Some Art Work
Most children display their crafty side unknowingly to them at a young age. If they’re allowed to explore their creative side, they grow into it and enjoy every bit of it. Grandparents can undoubtedly come into this by teaching their grandkids simple artwork that they used to do, like painting or learning simple instructional videos online on various artworks. Provide the materials needed to make it work out.
Holiday cards would work out perfectly since we’re in the holiday season. Alternatively, you can also offer simple painting accessories like canvas, paint, watercolors, and paintbrushes and let them sink into their imagination and have fun painting whatever comes to mind. No matter the kind of artwork you decide to engage in, the kids will never forget and treasure those fun moments.
Cook Together
The holidays present the perfect moment for grandparents and grandkids to interact in the kitchen. We all agree that most of our grandparents have exceptional cooking skills and they enjoy showing some of these skills to their grandchildren. Children are more likely to grow into whatever they’re taught from a young age.
Buy all the ingredients needed and let them guide their grandkids through the preparation process. However, if the grandparents are good at kid-friendly foods like pizza or cake, they could start with those to make it more fun and follow a simple preparation plan online if need be. The kids will be happy to set up the table later on in readiness to have the family eat what they prepared with their grandparents.
Play Games
A little competition between the two generations is not such a bad idea. Some games like board games and card games are still prevalent in both eras, and they can still work out perfectly. Most grandparents have a great mastery of these games, and they can teach their grandkids the rules of the games and tricks to use to win. The kids can also play the simple games that they’ve been taught at school or home.
Share Stories
Our grandparents are more enlightened in the history of the country, and also, their upbringing back in the day is different from the modern-day upbringing. Such stories would be of interest to the younger generation. They will also have the chance to ask questions concerning those life experiences. Alternatively, grandparents can read engaging stories from storybooks to the grandchildren with a moral lesson.
Learn and Teach a Hobby
The many hobbies back in the day no longer seem popular in this modern generation. Some of these include hobbies like fishing, knitting, crocheting, etc. Technology seems to have taken over, and those “old-time” hobbies are no longer as popular as before. Therefore, grandparents can come in a great way to ensure that these cultures are not lost and are passed on to generations. Don’t be reluctant to let the kids learn new crafts and venture into those unique hobbies.
Watch A Movie
A holiday wouldn’t be complete without sitting with family to watch a movie. On one of those cold days when everyone wants to snuggle up on the couch, an excellent family movie would make the day livelier. Luckily, these days there are many free and paid online platforms which you can access an interesting family-friendly film. With the provision of these, they can enjoy watching them undisturbed in the comfort of the home environment.
Memories don’t necessarily have to be made from complex events in life. In simplicity, you can still enjoy any moment and make memories. So, don’t be limited by finances or one style of having fun as long as it is doable and brings the much-needed bonding to the parties involved.
