Each Tuesday in August, Direct Energy and the City of Edmonton present Movies on the Square – a FREE outdoor movie series. Come to Sir Winston Churchill Square to watch a family favourite film. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the fabulous pre-movie entertainment before taking in the blockbuster hit that will be playing on a 3-storey high inflatable screen.
Activities start at 7pm and include fun for kids, contests for the best seats in the house, food from local food trucks and more. It’s the perfect time to come early, lay out a blanket or set up some chairs and get your spot for the movie to start later, at dusk.
Showing this month: Jurassic Park (August 4), Cinderella (August 11), Big Hero 6 (August 18) and Viewers Choice (August 25).
Here are some of our tips for movies on the square in Edmonton:
- Don’t forget a sweater, when the sun goes down and you’re making your way to the car at the end of the night it can be pretty cool
- Bring snacks with you if you’re trying to stay on budget
- Bring chairs and picnic blankets that are easily folded and have straps that can make it easier to carry them at the end of the night. It’s hard to carry tired kids and the chairs and food you’ve brought along without these straps
- Come early, set up your spot and enjoy the fun before the show starts
- Bring a friend, the more adults to come along and watch the kids, the easier the show is going to be
