I can’t believe we’re just a few short weeks away from the holidays, and that we’re heading into the holiday season. There are so many holiday activities to take part in, and so few days to explore them.
What to do this weekend in Edmonton (with Kids)
Blue Christmas at Muttart | Sunday, 11-3
Bring your crew down to celebrate the best of the festive season! Sing-along to classic Christmas tunes, make crafts to take home, plant your very own Christmas cactus and roast some bannock over the fire. You’ll also have the chance to see how traditional toys are made and take in our Feature Pyramid, “A Blue Christmas”. You’re going to love the indoor winter wonderland, and you can finish up the experience by bringing the toboggans and hitting up Gallagher Park, near Downtown.
Hay Rides and Santa Photos | Saturday
On Saturday, December 9 and 16 from 12-3pm, the Marketplace at Callingwood invites you to bring the family to meet Santa Claus who’ll be visiting us in the lobby of the Professional Centre, 6650-177 Street. Get your photo taken with him and get it printed instantly. Then hop on a FREE horse drawn hay ride around the parking lot (pick up point is in front of the Professional Centre doors.). There will also be colouring, crafts and treats!
Hour of Code | Friday
Join the Microsoft Store for this free, 90-minute workshop to take part in the global Hour of Code movement. Go behind the scenes to learn how to code, program, and play in your own Minecraft world. You’ll use fun, interactive coding to learn how creativity and problem solving come together to make something all your own. No experience with Minecraft or coding is required. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
- Create a list of coding instructions including loops and functions.
- Instruct a computer to perform tasks in a sequence
- Test and refine their coding instructions to complete a task
Zoominescense | All weekend
This December, Zoominescence, hosted by the Valley Zoo Development Society, will stage a spectacular exhibition of artistic light installations within the unique setting of the Edmonton Valley Zoo. The festival’s vision is to celebrate light, artistry, imagination and the strong spirit of our community in the winter. With a skating rink, maze, fire dancers, ice, light exhibits and 11 artist installations what could be a better outing in the cool month of December? Starting December 1st and running every weekend unil December 31st. With special bonus opening on December 26, 27 and 28. Come join us for eighteen days of fun, entertainment, lights and activities
Candy Cane Lane | Friday Onward
Candy Cane lane opens on Friday night and with the mild weather we’re going to have this weekend, it’s the perfect night to walk down, with a cup of hot cocoa in hand, enjoying the holiday Christmas lights.
Polar Express Pajama Party | Saturday morning
What’s better than watching a beloved classic, curled up in your coziest PJ’s with family and friends, you ask? Continuing a holiday tradition – that’s what!
