Dining with the kids doesn’t mean that you have to find a place that has a feature kids menu. For us, it’s about the service, the type of food and ensuring that we find a place where they’re going to have an enjoyable dinner experience, where we’re going to have an enjoyable dinner experience and where we’re going to be able to try a new place that we’ve yet to experience.
We brought the kids along to the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen (Jasper Ave) for a weekend dinner. Service was quick, and water and wine were delivered quickly to the table, following the appetizer, an order of bruschetta to share ($9). The bruschetta wasn’t a knock out of the park for flavour – but it was fine.
The server was quick, attentive and engaging with the kids. They enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and on Saturday night there were very few other families – mostly couples and groups. Despite this fact, it was fine – and dinner went well.
Spaghettini Pomodoro ($20.99) was a fast favorite for the kids. The tomatoes and sauce were flavourful, but yet without too much sauce for the current phase of being uninterested in pasta covered with sauce. The generous sized dish fed two kids, with lots leftover to bring home for lunch the next day. It was very flavourful, and even better the next day!
We also ordered a pizza to share between the table. For the kids, it immediately didn’t compare to one of their favorites, the pizza from Spinelli’s Bar Italia. Next time, I would skip the pizza and try something else.
To go with the pizza, we decided to share the daily pasticcio special. The dish had good flavours and was out to our table in just over fifteen minutes. Though the dish was good, I have to say that I prefer the gnocchi, my regular choice – get the gnocchi!
Finishing the meal, we were all stuffed, with food left over to take home. The price of the meal was just under $90 with the wine, a bit of a splurge for our usual Saturday dinner out and was overall good for a pasta meal with the kids.
