Are you moving to Edmonton? That’s very exciting! There’s so much to do, so start getting organized. Depending on the distance you must travel and the time you have to plan, you’ll need to hire professionals. The first thing to do is organize your bookings. That means the moving company, any businesses that need to be alerted to your changing address, and one of the best car shipping companies if you have a valued auto to transport. The sooner you go online for a quote and book these services, the better deal you’re likely to get.
Remember, auto shipping costs depend on several factors. These include:
- Distance
- Time of year
- Season
- Size of vehicle
- Type of transport
To get the lowest available price, check several quotes online and book early. The following companies are not rated by cost since each vehicle has unique moving circumstances. In other words, no one can predict what your car shipping cost will be until you get a quote for your specific circumstances. Rather these companies are rated by factors that provide a basis for general reputation, such as customer reviews, availability, and professional ratings.
1. Canadian Car Shipping
Canadian Car Shipping is highly rated for international shipping and many Canadian locations. This company was founded in 2012 and has an A+ rating from BBB. It offers door-to-door delivery, even between countries, and takes care of all the border crossing paperwork needed to ship your vehicle. Canadian Car Shipping also has a special it calls “snowbird shipping” for those who prefer to go south for the winter months and wish to have their car around without putting all those miles and wear and tear on the vehicle.
The downsides of Canadian Car Shipping are more common-sense issues than anything. The company doesn’t insure items left inside the car (most American shipping companies don’t either) or offer any promotions. Also, they’re unavailable in Manitoba. Canadian Car Shipping is a great option for international travel, especially since it handles all the paperwork.
2. uShip
uShip is a company founded in 2001 that currently operates in 18 countries, including transport from the United States to Canada. uShip works a little differently than most transport companies in that instead of getting a quote from a transport company, the transport companies bid to move your vehicle. In other words, the quote process is reversed. You put your information on the uShip site, and it helps you find transportation quotes from different companies. uShip has an A+ rating from BBB and offers (in most cases) door-to-door transport, insurance, and tracking.
The primary downside of uShip is it doesn’t directly offer transport services. In other words, it doesn’t ship the vehicles and is not involved in the transport process. uShip simply offers a medium through which to get the best deal on shipping. That means you likely won’t be communicating with a person until your deal is booked with a transport company. This also takes a bit of the wind out of your quote game since there is not necessarily an incentive for companies to give you their best price. uShip is a great option if you know your shipping date early and can pick and choose from the competition with plenty of time to spare.
3. MVS Canada
MVS Canada not only has an A+ BBB ranking but is also a member of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. It has more than 30 years of experience shipping in Canada and is top-rated for service and quality. MVS Canada also offers more unique shipping methods such as trucks, trains, or a combination. It has terminals in all major parts of Canada and does door-to-door delivery. Like many transport companies, its rates depend on multiple factors and quotes can be found on its website.
The downside to MVS Canada is it only operates within that country. Moving from the U.S. requires another transport company or a different option. MVS Canada does, however, operate all over Canada and has an excellent reputation for prices and service.
4. Shiply Canada
Shiply Canada was founded in 2008 with the goal of saving customers money while helping the environment. It aims to fill empty carriers already on the road, saving emissions and budgets. This company is another broker for transport companies. In other words, it doesn’t transport vehicles but puts customers in touch with carriers that do the shipping for the lowest possible price. This is another good option for people who know their moving dates early and can lock in a great quote by getting bids from multiple transport companies. Shiply Canada offers door-to-door delivery, so no need to find the nearest terminal. It operates internationally, so it’s no problem going to or from the U.S.
Again, the only downside to this type of company is its lack of on-the-ground transport, which means they aren’t in control of pricing or deals. While it’s possible to get the lowest of low prices from these quotes, it’s also possible to miss the mark completely. Depending on the time of year, the number of transports, and the size of your vehicle, among other things, you might find a lower price elsewhere. With this type of company, the customer is left to determine which bid to choose, which can be taxing or irritating for the uninitiated.
5. Performance Auto Carrier
Performance Auto Carrier is another long-game player. With more than 20 years in the business and a variety of services, this company also boasts several locations and long-term storage options. It claims to have lower prices than its competitors, but a quote would be the best way to test this theory since your vehicle will have its own needs.
Downsides to Performance Auto Carrier are a lack of accreditation from the BBB and a lower number of storage facilities, currently only in Brampton. While it is one of the few that offers storage solutions, this can get expensive very quickly.
Now that you know the top Canadian auto shipping companies, you can go about getting your quotes and great prices. Remember to shop around and book as early as possible for the best deals and check reviews for customer satisfaction.
