Introducing the kids to water at an early age through swimming lessons, through free play at the pool and outdoors, during the summer months, has helped us to raise swimmers. Let’s face it though, memberships can get expensive when you’re paying for an entire family. Finding ways to entertain the kids and activities come with no cost are one of the ways to not only stay sane when you’re at home with the kids but also a way to introduce the kids to new experiences and activities.
Finding no cost activities, like drop in swimming at Emerald Hills Leisure Centre is a great way to get out of the house, introduce the kids to water and stay sane when you’re at home with the kids and searching for free activities.
The newest leisure centre in Sherwood Park, the space is bright, accessible and perfect for infants and toddlers. There are large changing rooms, strollers on deck, low showers, and a pool with a welcoming, warm temperature for small children. Plus, at .45 m deep, infants and toddlers learning to stand will be able to stand and hold on to the edge, while they play. For smaller infant, there are those floating fish chairs for them to float around in.
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 9:30 to noon, it’s also free for parents and children under two to enjoy. For older siblings (bring kids under five is our recommendation; any older and they’re likely to be bored with the space) it’s only $3.75 for admission. During this time, the small children’s teaching pool and hot tub are open.
There are plenty of toys, and spray up jets for the kids to splash and play in, and of course other parents and grandparents with small children to socialize with while you’re there, enjoying the space.
Tips // bring quarters for the lockers ($.25/locker) and if you forget swim diapers, they’re available at the check-in desk for $2.
Find Emerald Hills Leisure Centre at 3555 Emerald Dr in Sherwood Park.
