Coming into June, it’s time to start thinking about summer camps. In our house, we’ve solidified our travel schedule for places to explore this summer – and now we’re on to summer camp planning. If you’ve started to search for summer camps, you’ve probably noticed how many options are available for Edmonton, and you might just be wondering where to start.
You don’t have to look much further than the City of Edmonton for a variety of fun daycamp options. There are programs for all ages, interests and abilities throughout the city and you can even use the City’s myrecguide tool to create your own customized daycamp guide – making it even easier to find the right kids camp.
So, How do You Choose Summer Camps?
What’s your kid interested in? | What is your kid interested in? Finding something that they’re passionate about is going to give them the option to develop that interest, and have a new experience along the way. Take into account their hobbies, passions and summer camps they would like to spend a few days taking part in.
Outdoors or In? | City of Edmonton Summer Daycamps are held at well-equipped City facilities, including attractions, recreation and leisure centres, and the River Valley. With so many options, you’re going to have to decide if they’re going to be comfortable spending the entire day outdoors. Tip: go with outdoors!
Some of our favourite River Valley day camps are organized by the city of Edmonton. Kids can take part in day camps like: Pirates of the North Saskatchewan, where kids can test of their swashbuckling skills and learn the ropes on a voyageur canoe at Hermitage Park. Next up? Junior Rangers, where kids will develop camping and wilderness survival skills such as outdoor cooking, fire making, and shelter building, along with a wide array of games, crafts, and songs. How cool are these options for summer camps in the River Valley? Want to find more, check out this link.
Half day vs. full Day | There are generally two options available for summer camp; half day and full day. Going for the full day depends on the age of the child, and whether you think they’re ready to tackle more than the half-day camp.
Location | Using the tools through the City of Edmonton camps website, you can target the camps available to locations that are close to home or work, making it easier to arrange those day camp drop off and pick-ups at the end of the day. For working parents, this is one of those options you’re going to wish that you discovered sooner.
