Taste of Edmonton is one of the best experiences that we have with the kids. We bring a blanket, embrace new flavours and try new things at the festival where we can skip making dinner in lieu of trying something new.
Here are some of our tips for taking the kids to Taste of Edmonton –
Check out the Menu | Check out the menu before you go. Reading through the different options gives you the chance to add a few things to your ‘must try’ list and familiarize the kids with the menu options, encouraging them to choose something new to try while you’re there. There are 100 different dishes to choose from, so going in with a plan is helpful! Use the online menu to search for different dietary restrictions, ticket amounts and more.
Bring a Blanket | There is often limited table space at Taste of Edmonton and picnics are a wonderful way to experience any festival. Bring a blanket and you get a ‘home base’ for you to enjoy the food, wrangle the kids and enjoy the festival.
Skip the Stroller | Skip the stroller and opt for baby wearing or if you do bring the stroller, keep it at the blanket and out of the lines. It’s quite busy, and having a stroller is more of a hinder than a help when you’re fetching food.
Bring your Own Drinks | Aside from the delicious lemonade that’s a staple at Taste of Edmonton, you’re going to want to save your tickets for food. Bring your own drinks with you to make it a more wallet-friendly evening or lunch out with the kids, and make sure they’re cold!
Divide and Conquer | Divide up the food fetching between the adults coming to the festival. One adult can stay at the table or blanket with the kids, and the other can go grab something to eat, and stand in line. It’s an easy way to mix it up and not stand in line with kids.
Share Plates | Share plates with the entire family. Make sure to grab two of something if you know it’s something that everyone is going to enjoy, but sharing plates means that everyone is going to get a taste of the food – making for a fun dinner experience.
Taste 4 Kids | Taste of Edmonton kids programming is a fun way to mix it up a little. With daily activities like kids yoga, story time, dance, urban farming, puppet shows, you can plan your visit around the things to do for kids to make the experience more exciting for the little ones in tow.
Cool Off | Bring the kids swimsuits. If the weather is favorable at the festival, you’re going to be nice and close to the fountains at City Hall for the kids to wade in the water, and cool off after they’ve finished eating. Make sure to wait until you’ve finished walking and tasting though, you don’t want to walk around with wet feet.
