5 LEGO Store Tips and Tricks for Parents

Visits to the Lego store can get expensive quickly – but you don’t have to buy something every time you visit the store. In fact, the Lego store makes it pretty easy to take part in programs to get free Lego, free entertainment and fun, in-store events for kids.

Get the Calendar | Every month, there is a new Lego store events calendar released. This calendar has promotions, in-store events, contests and exclusive figures that you can collect with purchases. You can find this calendar online, or by asking for it (in-store).

Free Monthly Mini Builds | Sign up on the 15th of the month (bright and early) because it’s a popular event, for a free monthly build for the next month. This is a free way to get a mini build every month, visit the store and take it home with you.

Lego Club Meetings | Lego Club meetings are a second chance to complete the mini build of the month and to get special information and offers. You can sign children up in-store for Lego Club meeting ($10).

Minifigure Swap Monday | Once a month on a Monday, kids between 6-16 can visit the store and swap their mini figures with Brick Specialists and other kids visiting the store. This is the perfect chance to complete those collections and get the mini figures you’ve been trying to collect, but haven’t gotten inside of the blind bags.

Pick a Model | Similar to the pick a brick, where kids can fill a cup of Lego with the bricks on the back wall, every two months there is a new small model that children can build. You can pick the bricks needed for the model according to a list on the plastic container, bring it home, and build it. The fee for these small models is $6.99, and they’re a nice way to get custom, unique models.

Shopping Break | There are three stations set up in the store for children to play with Lego and Lego Duplo. Our kids enjoy spending time in the store, creating three mini figures for $12.99, and outfitting them with accessories to bring home. While we’re shopping, the Lego break is an easy way to entertain the kids for a few moments.

VIP Club | If you shop regularly at the Lego store, sign up for the VIP program. There are often points events where you can double your points, or even more, which is when we wait to shop. These points accumulate quickly, and you can often save $5 or $10 off of your purchase.
