There’s a new way to play in town and you’re going to want to mask-up and enter a brand-new world with the kids – the world of virtual reality. We’ve found the most kid-friendly VR place in town, at Game OVR.
VR has been gaining momentum and at the last few opening and events that we’ve attended, it’s been a popular addition. Opting to skip it I didn’t give it a try until we spent an evening exploring at Game OVR in St. Albert. The arcade features multiple options for play, from co-op rooms, and comfortable rooms with sofas – perfect for spending an evening playing as a family.
So, what kind of VR games can you expect?
Fruit Ninja | It’s one of those games that you’re probably familiar with; swiping away on the iPad trying to slice as much fruit as you can in one quick swoop. Now, you can do it as the fruit seem to come up from the floor around you – you, with sword in hand trying to swipe as many pieces as you can, while avoiding the bombs. Those quick rounds are a fantastic way to burn off some of that winter energy!
Job Simulator | From manning the cashier at a local convenience store, or working in an office where you can eat mouldy doughnuts to induce vomiting, there’s plenty to do in job simulator. Between the many different jobs, the kids could easily spend an hour playing job simulator!
Richie’s Plank Experience | First, you enter the elevator and take the trip to the 160 m to the top. Next up, you’re going to walk the plank, off the building. It is so weird – if you’ve got adventurous kids, they’re going to love it – and you’re going to want to see their reaction. In the game, you can put out fires, use a jetpack and much more. Super cool.
Munch | There are plenty of fish in the sea, but few as hungry as Munch! The classic story of eat-and-grow is reimagined in VR where you play as Munch, the little fish with big dreams and an even bigger stomach. Fill the void by devouring your fellow fish friends! Eat smaller fish to grow in size – the kids are likely going to be familiar with this game, and playing it at Game OVR brings it to a whole new level.
There’s a fantastic selection of children’s games, co-op games and beginner’s games that are going to make it feel like the hour has passed incredibly quickly at Game OVR. Before we had even left the building, the kids requested to go back again, and really – we couldn’t wait to either!
Booking options include a regular room ($25/hour) to a Deluxe room, with a comfortable seating area ($35/hour) and a 2-player co-op room ($50/hour). In each room, there are 30+ game options for you to choose from, ranging from a few minutes to a full forty-minute experience. Interested in what other games are available?
