The warmer weather is here. We’ve been getting outside for hours every day, enjoying it (and surviving spring break). Coming into April, there is more excitement than ever in Edmonton, with kids events and activities in Edmonton all month long.
Wondering what to do in April with kids? Start here:
- Drop in to John Janzen nature centre on the weekend for one of the four drop in classes where kids can learn about wildlife, or take part in special programming and a nature walk.
- Check out the Sherlock Holmes exhibit at Telus World of Science – while you’re there, explore the science garage if you haven’t yet
- Build a butterfly house at the monthly kids workshop at Home Depot, it’s a free, fun activity for local kids
- Design a pet rock at this session for kids at John Janzen

- Get out there and explore the trails. Wondering when to start? How about this weekend when it’s supposed to be 17 degrees. Wondering where to start? We’ve got you covered with this list of kid friendly trails in Edmonton
- Drop off the kids at the Kidz Night out with Bricks 4 Kidz on April 15th. They’ll build Lego, you get dinner without the kids (win/win).
- Take the kids on a fun 5K that ends with cupcakes and dessert buffet. The Spring into Sprinkles fun race is on April 30, and you can register now.
- Spend a Saturday afternoon at Millennium Place on the inflatables in the deep pool. Can you conquer the obstacle course?
- Sign up for a kids workshop at Greenland Garden Centre where you can make a take a plant home, based on that week’s edible plant theme. It’s only $5, and you can browse the greenhouse while the kid finish their project
- Have fun with a Minecraft Game Night at the Library
- Get free admission to the Art Gallery of Alberta on the last Thursday evening of the month and check out the latest exhibitions as part of Servus Community access night
- Take part in a Kids Pizza cooking class (April 2) or a Royal Tea Party (April 23) with PC Cooking School
- Stop by the spring social with a toy in support of the Ronald McDonald House
- Visit with Safari Jeff at Mill Woods Town Centre between April 20-24
- Grab the books you’re not reading anymore and trade them at a book swap for kids at Callingwood Marketplace
- Try a yoga or movement class at Ivivva before the store opens on Sunday mornings
- Drop in for a free playdate happening almost every day in April. You can find these free playdates on our event calendar
- Drop in for a weekend art class at St. Albert Art Gallery
- Stop by Toddler Time at West Edmonton Mall and get $20 admission for a toddler and their parent to the waterpark
- Make a Spring Tea cup at Salisbury Greenhouse
- Use plants to create a miniature fairy garden and add your own finishing touches at a Garden Workshop
- Catch a $2.99 movie on Saturday mornings as part of Cineplex Family Favourites. Every Saturday, there’s a new favourite movie playing at your local theater, on the cheap.
- Make plans to attend the Ladybug Release Party
- Make a list and shop it twice at the Make it Show, where you’re going to find incredible local vendors and 100 things that you’re going to want to bring home with you. Do yourself a favour though, leave the kids at home for that one.
