With the colder weather comes more time spent indoors and with more time spent indoors comes higher levels of energy – right? For parents searching for new and fun places to play in Edmonton, we’ve got a list of the best places to run off energy, from a new indoor trampoline park that has epic dance parties and a ninja course, to an indoor scooter park with an indoor playground in Edmonton, to the under sea caverns – somewhere that you’ve probably never thought to explore, because you live in Edmonton.
Sea Life Caverns | Touch a Starfish
Spend an afternoon running off some energy at the Sea Life caverns, near the sea lion show at West Edmonton Mall. The kids can touch a star fish, check out the penguins and see two giant turtles, while having a look at the nurse sharks, lounging at the bottom of the tank. The staff members in the caverns are helpful, full of facts and information and there are plenty of places for parents to sit, in a space that’s small enough for the kids to see everything.
Ride n Play | Scooter and Skateboard Ramps
Ride n Play is the newest addition to indoor play in Edmonton. Kids can bring their scooter or skateboards to check out the fun skate park, while the little children play on the indoor playground. It’s a fun place for kids to run off some of that energy during the winter months, and there is even a Groupon deal available.
Jump Park Trampoline Park | Jump Dance Party
The latest jump park in the city features a great viewing area from above, for parents to keep an eye on their children, sofas, a bar and dinner menu and a great indoor playground area. While you’re there, there are frequent black light dance parties where they turn off the lights and increase the volume (the kids love this).
The Batting Cages | Hit Balls and Gain Skill
One of the brand new places to play in Edmonton is perfect for an outing with older kids. The Batting Cages is a great place to hit balls, gain skill, and have an afternoon or evening out literally, blowing off some steam with a bat.
All Stars Indoor Playland | Take the Zipline
All Stars Indoor Playland is the largest indoor playground in the city, and it has one of the best menus of all indoor playgrounds – actually, the best. The delicious food, huge play area ans
Telus World of Science | Water and Airline Play
Telus World of Science is one of our favourite places for small children to get rid of some of that pent up energy that seems to happen through the winter months. From a small infant play area, to the toddler area where they can delve into water or imagine play in an airplane, you’re going to have a few hours of entertainment while you’re there. Searching for an annual pass option that’s going to keep the fun? Telus World of Science has it.
The Rec Room | Play arcade Games + eat Donuts
There are delicious (fill your own) donuts at the Arcade, and hundreds of arcade games for the kids to play while you’re there. Based on a credit system, it’s comparable in price to places like Chuck E Cheese, but the games are better – way better.
John Janzen | Play Inside, and Outside
One of the best places to play outside in the city, and take part in the guided programming that takes place multiple times weekly, is John Janzen. Kids can take part in the outdoor programming and then warm up, running around the small interpretive center or fun indoor playground that has plenty to climb on.
Ardrossan Love to Play | Preschool Haven
Worth the trip (but it’s only ten minutes outside of Sherwood Park) this place to play has a fantastic grocery store setup, fun sensory and science themed walls, and a fantastic fort with a slide that’s ready to be covered with blankets for fun, little kid play. You can either stay and play with your child, or drop them off for unparented fun (around $8 for 2-3 hours).
Millennium Place | Everyone loves the indoor playground for little kids at Millennium Place, but the older kid area is often overlooked. It’s a fantastic place for older kids to drop in and have some fun, with video games, an interactive playground and adjacent gym for pick up games. There are also couches and a lounge area, with fun things to do like air hockey.
Preschool Wheels | Bring Bikes, Scooters and Ride on Toys
Bring your bikes, ride on toys and scooters indoors to this indoor playground for preschool kids, at Kinsmen. Close to downtown, the location is great and there are multiple drop in times weekly for kids to take part in. While you’re there, you’ll often find an inflatable playground for children to take part in, as well.
