10 Things to do in Edmonton This Week that Won’t Cost You a Dime | July 31

We’re coming into the first week of August and it’s the perfect time to start exploring the city, and the many free things to do in Edmonton with kids.

Check out the CP Canada Day Train | Monday, 5 pm
Iconic diesel locomotive CP 1401 (1958) will lead the train, powering more than 10 beautifully restored Royal Canadian Pacific heritage cars (1916-1931). As the train makes its way across the country, it will be the exclusive event backdrop for photographers and admirers alike. Also included in the train is CP’s exclusive retrofitted stage car from which event-goers will be treated to a truly Canadian performance. To preserve the vintage nature of the cars and carry out a safe event, tours will not be available.

Spin at Wolf Willow Playground | All week
Check out Wolf Willow Playground, it’s the perfect place to explore on a weekday, and usually not very busy. It’s got a great spinning feature, T-rex to excavate from the sand and three story tower in the play structure. It’s a great place to head out for adventures, as you can head across the street for easy access to the River Valley!

Family Park Night – Olympic BBQ | Wednesday
Come to Northmount Park from 6-8 to play fun olympic games like soccer, racing and badminton. An enjoy a FREE BBQ! There will also be a bicycle safety and riding demo at 5:00pm. Every Wednesday during the summer, Amity House will be hosting FREE Family Park Nights at a different park throughout North East Edmonton. This is a family friendly event and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Get Wild at the EPL | Tuesday, 3 pm
From the Rocky Mountains to the Hudson Bay, Canada puts the wild in wildlife. So come navigate through the country and learn about all sorts of Canadian animals!

Family Nature Night | Wednesday, 6 pm
Family Nature Nights are events for kids and families to come and discover nature in Edmonton. This week, visit Lois Hole Provincial Park at 6 pm to register for the event. Theme: Backyard Birding.

Head to the Outdoor Pool | All week long
Outdoor pools are still free for the entire summer, so they’re bound to be busy – but on those days when it’s a bit cooler than usual, and you get there early, it’s an easy way to have the pool fun, without the excessive crowds that tend to happen later in the afternoon.

Bouncy Castles at Callingwood Farmer’s Market | Wednesday, 12
On August 2, we will have a bouncy castle from 12-4pm for the kids to burn off some energy! We’ll also have a Zumba class from 1-1:45pm – all ages and levels welcome. Come get a great workout in dancing to upbeat music with a certified Zumba instructor.

Come Play Lego at the Library | Friday, 4 pm
Calling all Lego lovers! Come to the library to design and build a Lego creation. Share your building tips and tricks with others.

Watch an Outdoor Movie | Varies
There are plenty of free outdoor movie nights coming up, including movies on the Square, one of our favourite events for kids. Here’s where to see free movies outdoors, in Edmonton, this summer.
