Family Day and Valentine’s mean that the second weekend in February is going to be filled with fun. With so many activities to choose from across the city, you’re going to have to pick and choose the best 2 or 3 to attend. Here is our guide to the Family Day events in Edmonton, to help you make the choice of how you’re going to spend the day with your family.
The Wildlife Festival
When: February 15, 10 – 5
What: This year will feature over 20 LIVE ANIMAL EXHIBITS, 2 alternating 30 minute formal presentations, one by the Canadian Raptor Conservancy and the other by Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo. Staff will have animals out for you and your families to interact with and ask questions about

Family Fun Day at Whitemud Equine Learning Center
When: February 15, 11 – 2
What: Sleigh rides, a chance to visit with the horses and pony rides (must be booked before the Family day of fun).

Snowman Festival in Morinville
When: February 15,
What: Tobogganing, Family Dance, Family Curling and Fun Spiel, Bob Foster Memorial Family Ice Fishing, Snowman Building, Ice Sculpting, Cabane a Sucre, Snowman Competition, Shinny Hockey and much more!

City Hall Family Fun Day
When: February 15, noon to four
What: Take a twirl on the City Hall ice rink, go for a hay ride, roast bannock over an open fire and check out the Family Day games and activities on the Square. Free skate and helmet rentals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Food trucks will be on site. The excitement continues inside City Hall with live entertainment, crafts and more!

Family Day at Edmonton Valley Zoo
When: February 15, noon to four
What: Bundle up your family, beat the winter blues and “Get Closer” for some Family Day Fun! Stay warm while you visit the Polar Bear craft table or participate in the Animal Families scavenger hunt. Learn why Edmonton Valley Zoo is an Arctic Ambassador Centre for Polar Bears International and visit our free photo booth to take home a family memory!

Crafting at the Reuse Center
When: February 15, noon to three
What: The Reuse Centre is hosting a Family Day open house event. Participate in a reuse crafting workshop, shop through the treasure trove of items or take a tour and learn more about reuse. Activities are free, items cost $5 per purchase of up to 50kg.

Family Day Festival and Pancake Breakfast at McLeod Community League
When: February 15, 10-4

Family Day at the Legislature (Indoors)
When: February 15, 11-4
What: All the way from the Edmonton Federal Building through the pedway and up to the fifth floor of the Legislature Building, you’ll find Family Day magic around every corner. Build a Lego replica, get a temporary tattoo, take part in crafts, live music and much more, indoors.

Fire and Ice Festival, St. Albert
When: February 15, noon to four
What: Obstacle courses, fire hose tug of war, skating, pond hockey with the firefighters (don’t forget your stick!) Fire artist performance at 2&3 pm, horse drawn sleigh rides, Cabane a sucre, ice carving, fire trucks, hot chocolate, free hot dogs and a fire pit to warm up.

Heritage Lakes Family Day Festival

$2 Lessons at Strathcona Wilderness Centre
When: February 15, afternoon
What: Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tasty treats and a campfire from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Equipment rental and trail fees apply. $2 Toonie Cross Country Ski Lessons (one hour). Sign-up for the 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. lesson. Equipment rental and trail fees apply. $2 Toonie Snowshoe Ramble (one hour): 2 p.m. Equipment rental and trail fees apply. Family Day at the YMCA
When: February 15,
What: Visit one of the four family YMCA locations in Edmonton for FREE admission during holiday hours. Enjoy public swimming, drop in fitness and access to the workout center, open gym and indoor track. Select locations have bounce toys in the gym between 12-2 pm.

Nirvana Hot Yoga Family Yoga Class and Dance
When: February 15
What: Bring your little ones in for this family fun yoga class. Ages 5-12, must have at least 1 adult per child. In this 75 minute class, we will move and dance together, learning basic and fun yoga postures, breathing techniques and teach the little ones the important of mediation.
