Leduc Country Lights opens on December 1st, and it’s one of the best Christmas Walks that you’ll experience in Edmonton and area. Just outside of the city, it’s a walk that can include visits with Santa Claus, hot chocolate and a chance to donate food, it’s one of our favourite holiday events to embark on with the kids!
First up? It’s free. That’s right – there is no cost to visit this giant FREE field of Christmas lights and displays just outside of Edmonton. That being said, Donations of food & cash accepted for the Leduc Food Bank.
How to find Leduc Country Lights: From Leduc head West on Highway 39 to Range Road 260, turn South to Township Road 492. Alternate route from Highway 39 is to turn south on Range Road 255 and then West onto Township Road 492.
What to Wear: Dress warm, layer and bundle. Even though the weather is still mild, the winds can be fierce so you’re going to want to make sure that small children have their faces covered.
For Small Children: Bring a sled with a rope to pull younger children through the experience, and use blankets to help keep them warm while you’re enjoying the light up displays. For older children, there are sleighs and other opportunities to interact with some of the displays, but for the most part, they should be encouraged to stay on the walk ways – and respect the light displays that are created.
The Schedule: The lights are on daily, between 4 oclock and 9 oclock, making it easy to fit in before bedtime, and a great after-dinner activity for the entire family. There are special days where Santa is present, and there is hot chocolate – these include December 1,2,3,8,9,10, 15,16,17 and 21,22,23. Note that the light displays are closed Christmas Day.
Bundle up and head out to see the lights this weekend, Friday night is the first night the displays are open, and it’s a great opportunity to meet with Santa and have hot chocolate, or warm up around the fire pit!
