The Bricks 4 Kidz Night Out programs provide an evening of playful learning for the kids using our theme-based project kits, while Mom and Dad have a night out. Evening class times are from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm with locations in Sherwood Park, South Edmonton and St. Albert.
There is no dinner, and pre and post care isn’t provided, so you’re going to have to make sure that the kids eat dinner before the camp. Kids are encouraged to bring indoor shoes, and a water bottle with a nut free snack. As with a lot of these types of programs, I think the experience is enhanced when the kids are able to go with one of their friends, so that’s what we did this weekend when we tested it out.
Campers rotate through our instructed station based camp. Activities may include:
- Motorized Model Building Station (utilizing technic LEGO® bricks)
- Mosaic Art Station (using 1×1 LEGO® bricks)
- Perler® Station (fused bead take home craft)
- Craft Station (themed take home crafts)
- Games and Puzzle Station
- PS3 Station (Various E-Rated Games Available)
- Creative Free Play (using our Giant Bag of LEGO® bricks)
Six Year Old’s Review of Kids Night Out at Bricks 4 Kidz
I watched a movie, two movies and it was about Superheroes. We didn’t get to bring the Lego home. We played Simon Says. We played with those little beads that you put on a board with sticks that hold them and holes. What are they called? Perler beads. We played Lego. Me and Alden were the first ones there. There was a machine with a rectangle and I made a spinny thing. It has a thing that you attach on to it, you should see it. The teacher was nice. She let us have the lights off when we watched the movie. She let me have a frisbee in hot potato. It was a fun game. That’s all.
Me: What was your favorite part?
Her: I liked to build Lego and I played Minecraft on the Playstation. We got in a cave. We tried to make it into a house.
Me: Would you go back?
Her: Yes. It’s fun and I got to stay up late.
She liked it, asked to go back next month and it at about $10/hour it was the same price as hiring a sitter. Designed for kids aged 6+, it’s a great alternative to the other Saturday night programs that are available in the area – filled with flexible play and a chance for the kids to get out of the house and parents to have dinner, without them.
Tip: we split drop off and pick up duties with a friend, to reduce the running around. The Sherwood Park location is hidden if you’re unfamiliar with the area, it’s tucked away to the left in the buildings. I drove around for ten minutes searching for it – so get directions if you’re unfamiliar with that area. The cost for the Kids Night out Program is $31.50, and goes from 5:30 to 8:30. Plus, if you’ve got a community league membership, you get a discount!
