Fall festivals are the perfect time to celebrate the harvest, and create memories while the leaves fall, and before the snow falls to the ground. When planning fun in September, there are some fantastic, low-cost and even free festival activities for families in Edmonton and area. Here are some of our favourites:
Harvest Gathering Festival | An afternoon filled with old fashioned fun for the whole family! Hayrides, corn on the cob, marshmallow roast, pumpkin painting, face painting, apple pie contest & more (Toonie donations for some activities support ‘A Safe Place’ Women’s Shelter)
When: September 18, 1-4 pm
Mid Autumn Lantern Festival | Ready to set lanterns into the water, eat mooncake, and listen to stories? Join us in celebrating the Midautumn Lantern Festival! There will also be Lion Dances, martial arts, wishing trees, and much more to bring you a fantastic festival experience. Lantern parade begins at 8pm, with kid-friendly activities throughout the evening.
When: September 14, 1-9
Sweet Corn Festival | This corn festival is a family event with a cornucopia of corny activities including corn eating contests, corn mazes, face painting, corny jokes, veggie art and more. The festival features the Kids Maze and Mindbender Kids Corn Mazes, folk music, and hands-on corn craft activities for children.
When: Labour Day Weekend
Callingwood Cornfest | Corn on the Cob, food vendors and treats, bouncy castles, petting zoo and activities for the entire family. The Marketplace at Callingwood is hosting the 18th Annual Cornfest, a family event in Edmonton that raises funds for the Edmonton Firefighter’s Burn Treatment Society.
When: September 10, 12-5
Spruce Grove Harvest Fair | This event is geared for the kids – old-time farm games such as the Potato Sack Race, Stuff the Scarecrow Contest, Cross Saw Competition, Cow Milking Contest, Prizes in the Stooks, and more! The Farmers Market, Grain Elevator Museum, SG Ag Society Concession, and the Prairie Ornamental Avicultural Association will be at the SG Grain Elevator Site. Great way to wind-up the summer!
When: September 17, 9:30 – 1:30
Harvest Festival | Come and experience harvest as the pioneers did it! We will be using some of our large collection of vintage farm machinery to harvest our crop. There will also be live music, a petting zoo and face painters.
When: September 24, 11-3
Fall Festival at Millcreek Nursery | Apple tasting, kids crafts, vendors and entertainment in the greenhouse. There’s a hot dog concession, Bake Sale & Silent Auction
